Help/advice for planning a plot?
Hi. So, yesterday I made a post asking for help getting into the heads of characters. But, compared to this, that was a waste of time. This has been a much bigger issue in all of my experience writing, giving me more trouble and discouraging me more.
I have issues creating plots. Usually, I'll have a great idea. It might be for a whole novel, or just a chapter. Either way, I get excited about it and write it well. But along the way, faster than I can actually write it, I flesh out the idea further. I've already planned out the next several events, given detail to all the points.
And then, sooner or later but usually sooner, I end up starting to dislike it. I start seeing holes in it, things that don't make sense. I look at how the plot is supposed to transition, and I think, "Well that's just illogical. Nobody's going to believe that."
But because I've planned it out so much, I end up unable to go back and look at it as I originally did. The new details and the original concept have completely mixed together, and I have no idea how to strip away what doesn't work, because it's melted into one. I don't know if it's all in my head, or if it does need fixing. And my mind got set on the idea, so even with its flaws I have a hard time thinking of alternate ways to go.
My current plan is to try and push through and write it anyway, then take a good look and see if it works for real. Then I want to show it to people I trust, because they'll actually be able to tell me whether or not it makes sense.
But I'm hoping y'all can tell me other ways to try and get past this. Hopefully ways to get through the writing process itself, without it being the ridiculous, discouraging struggle it tends to become.
